Nückel – Destiny; red/tan/grey cloth boards

Nückel’s Destiny (both the New York and UK editions) came out with red cloth boards but there also appear to be variants.

Typical red cloth covered boards.

Comparing Colours can be problematic

There have been a few listings for Destiny with what appears to be grey cloth boards or in some cases tan cloth boards.

NOTE: depending on lighting, the camera, and your monitor, colours can be difficult to compare or establish. ALSO red is particularly prone to fading.

Two Photos of the same book

This is the dealer’s photo. It appears to have grey cloth boards.
This is my photo of the same book ie the same library sticker
on the spine. The boards are tan as it appears here
ie not grey as one would assume from the dealer’s image.

Grey cloth boards

These examples do not look like a faded red.

Tan cloth boards

Photo credit: Ken Sanders Rare Books

Ken Sanders Rare Books has the following comment regarding this copy with tan boards versus the more common red cloth boards: “This is likely a prepublication/review copy, due to the color of the boards (we have handled quite a few copies of this work over the years, and we have never handled a copy in tan boards) and laid in is a typed slip, that reads: ‘THIS BOOK IS PUBLISHED MARCH 7’.”

NOTE: Ken’s copy was published by Farrar & Rinehart Inc., New York. However the following book, also with a tan cover, was published by Albert E. Marriott Ltd, London (but printed in the USA).
