Frans Masereel is noted for his wordless novels or wordless stories, some of which can be found by clicking this link.

Not everything Masereel did constitutes a wordless novel; this is an arbitrary listing of some of them (the list might grow):

  • 1921 Groteskfilm
    • this consists of 18 double-page drawings without words but it has no discernible story arc.
  • 1938 Jemand
    • this book uses Masereel’s woodcuts from Die Passion eines Menschen and for each image matches spoken word and choral work by Hans Sahl.
